Sanhe Power Tech Contributes to World’s Largest Single-Unit Seawater Electrolysis Hydrogen Production System
A seawater-to-hydrogen demonstration project at a major coastal power plant in southern China represents a world-first achievement: the largest single-unit seawater electrolysis hydrogen production system globally, with a rated capacity of 500 kW and a hydrogen output of 100 Nm³/h.
This demonstration project, which began installation and commissioning in November 2023, is now successfully operating at full capacity. It validates seawater electrolysis as a scalable, cost-effective pathway for harnessing marine renewable energy.
As a key equipment supplier, Sanhe Power Tech provided three core components for the project, all housed within the containerized system:

The system’s hydrogen output has consistently surpassed the designed capacity, demonstrating excellent performance and stability.
Power Quality Performance
After commissioning, all power quality parameters — including harmonics, reactive power, and three-phase balance — were brought into full compliance with national grid standards, ensuring reliable and efficient hydrogen production.

This project demonstrates that seawater electrolysis can be a technically viable and economically attractive solution for large-scale, low-cost green hydrogen production — especially relevant for coastal regions and islands with abundant renewable energy resources.
